    Hello Randy!

I must begin by letting you know what a privilege it was meeting you this afternoon at Yvonne’s event. I have been paging through Is Anybody Listening? and I thank you for sharing this resource with me. It is such an accurate reflection of the students I work with and their mindset. I also had the opportunity to visit your website, Looking forward to using the site to support upcoming lesson plans for my 5th/6th graders!

On a personal note, I can’t help but believe it was divine direction that brought us together today. I look forward to keeping in touch with you throughout my journey to significance. :) As mentioned, my passion continues to bring me back to the field of art and/or writing. My father was an architect and we would spend countless hours together, sketching and painting. It has always been one of my favorite hobbies but, over the years — through my experience in graphic design and, now, teaching — I find that my true interest is to teach art. My thoughts on how to make it a more “significant” career choice have led me to consider adding a special education endorsement for teaching K-8 or…… pursuing a master’s degree in art therapy. And therein lies my problem. I have no idea how to turn my passion for creative expression into a job that will sustain me throughout the coming years.

Yes, I have made some reeeeally bad financial decisions over the years and would like very much to reboot my life in preparation for, what I hope to be, a retirement that is not burdened by financial drought. (I am actually older than you, Randy, and have ALOT of decisions to make.) Unfortunately, by my own doing, my lack of financial freedom continues to be my biggest stumbling block. That’s why I asked if it’s ever too late?

In my heart, I believe that my writing will be my saving grace. I can still hear your instructions to “ship it” and hope you would consider mentoring me through this process. I have alot to say, my way, and I believe that it will benefit people of all ages. If you have any time or resources to spare or share, I would be so grateful for your insight. Thank you for the encouragement. I look forward to hearing from you.

Let no one steal your joy,

I read your book, ‘Is Anybody Listening,’ and was highly impressed. To have chapters authored by the students themselves is insightful and eye-opening. I was amazed at the level of maturity many of them displayed and their foresight to apply their experiences to set goals and shape their lives in the future. A book worth reading for all ages, but particularly teenagers and parents.

    Best Wishes,

“As a Speech-Language Pathologist in the public school setting for 8 years, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of students, parents, and professionals who would benefit from the book; “Is Anybody Listening?” It is an exemplary body of work compiled by students with a voice to be heard, acknowledged and shared. Each story, from student, teacher and Randy King, is sewn together with a common thread: “the youth are our future; they internalize the world around them and persevere with their free will.” – Candice M. Steel, B.S. SLP-L Speech-Language Pathologist

  • Nancy Best says:

    Dear Randy,

Wow! Great reading! I enjoyed reading the whole book. I read it the first time and cried most of the way threw it, so I read it the second time and I was amazed at how honest and real that the youth of this generation can be. The students at MALC are truly a very special group of young men and women.

This book is a must read for any adult working with the youth in America and around the World. I wish I had – had this book to read when my own children were in Middle School. Maybe then as a parent I would have been more understanding of their feeling and emotions of the 12 – 14 year olds.

The issues that our teens face every day are real – and in my openion Mr. King and Dr. Christensen have done us all a real service by writing this book and thank you to each young man and women who wrote their essays. This book is or should be a must read for anyone working with our 12 – 18 year olds, as a parent, teacher, councelor/advisor, principal.

    Thank You,
Nancy Best, local, state and national PTA
    California Education Committee {Governor Schwarzenegger}

  • Connie says:

Your enthusiasm for everything from politics to young people fills the room (or in this case, office) long after you have driven away and gone off to face your next challenge or task. Thanks for that. Lots of thinking about and appreciation of my own youth. Yes, there were times I felt I had an awful childhood-even abusive but reading how those young people gathered strength from their struggles was like therapy for me. Amazing what you can still learn when you’re 65 years young. Thanks for that. Connie

How proud I am for my dedication toward my daughter and how she has become stronger in her abilities to experience the world. Good parents not poor excuses for ones will see their children’s success. As for my daughter, she has been given the opportunity to choose to go to UCLA, BERKLEY, HOUSTON—to major in Medical Science. Working hard is the only way to go.

I met you last Wednesday evening at the Professional Networking Group at AmTrust Bank, purchased your book and listened to your brief but inspiring talk.

This is a superb read for a brief review of our political system, personal motivation that tilts toward “The Law of Attraction,” a primer for now and the future and full speeches by many that we should honor as well as charts for all to use. This should be a “must read” for every student in their developmental years, parent, educator, and organization owners/managers everywhere in the universe.

Thank you and I am glad that I have lived long enough to have acquired and read your book.

  • The Tech Guy says:

    “Overcoming Obstacles”

As the Christmas season approaches, a family of four, with one on the way, plan a winter getaway in the mountains of San Diego. The weather forecast was for warm weather and clear skies. A couple days into the vacation, the skies turn gray and the air turns cold. Deciding to wait things out instead of packing up and leaving, the family gets trapped in a cold rainstorm. Getting chilled to the bone, the expectant mother catches a cold. She starts feeling better a few days later, but the damage has been done. The baby is born shortly after almost a month premature with underdeveloped lungs. Throughout most of his childhood, he struggled with many pulmonary problems, including chronic asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia. He spent most of his childhood struggling to breathe and getting poked and prodded by doctors. The mother, blaming herself for her son’s medical conditions, struggled with guilt.

Her son, blessed with curiosity, a good memory and mental stamina, focused on developing his mental skills by reading, playing games of skill (like chess) and learning the piano. Instead of blaming his mother for his problems, he made the best of things and began to develop many skills. Almost 40 years later, he has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Masters Degree in Information Technology and a teaching credential. He has lived out of the country for several years, organized many community events and helped developed several successful businesses, including, Diamond Crest Computer Consulting and Galactic Grill and Catering. And most importantly, he has a strong relationship with God, his mother and his young daughter.

  • CEO/Author and somebody when everybody said, “You will never amount to anything.” says:

    “The Rear View Mirror”

Growing up as an only child was very tough! What was even tougher was being moved from school to school every year and not being able to build friendships and bond with someone or something. I was always scared. Not knowing anyone on the first day of school was very hard. I would secretly cry off by myself for hours. All alone in each new school system, I was the goofy boy with thick glasses and was often made fun off and bullied by other students. I can remember like it was yesterday, I was in the 7th grade, riding in back seat of my parents car, my father looking at me in the “Rear View Mirror” would say, “Son I have good news, we are moving and you will be going to a new school and a new area and you will be able to make new friends.” This took place over 7 times during my 7th thru 12th grade years in school. No friends, no self-confidence was building my life looking back. Many teachers would tell me that I would never amount to anything. Not all school systems are the same. I would always hope and pray that my transfer grades and credits would be accepted or even better yet, would place me ahead of the other students academically or at least be on even grounds. This was not the case at all. “We have to have him catch up with additional work so he is up to OUR standards”. My feelings of the dumb new kid on the block! This story could have continued, but I won’t let it! TODAY, I am a successful business owner with over 8 books to my credit and yes me, are asked to speak before business group Universities and schools around the country to help others understand that YES – you can and will be whatever you want to be if you work hard and believe in God. Someone will show up and guide you along the way…. Yours truly,
CEO/Author and somebody when everybody said, “You will never amount to anything.”

  • Superintendent says:

It was weird reading your book….your style of talking is very much like mine. In fact, “put it in the universe” is one of our school’s lines used almost daily. In fact, in our first phone call it was noticed by our team when you used it.

Next, I will support your next book, “Dream to Achieve”. We have a Math Bowl in place to raise our Math Academics. Students will be competing in teams with $ winnings, Magic Mountain trip, gift certificates, etc. This is a good left brain activity, but with your project I can support our right brain students with a writing activity. Please share exactly what you would like the students to do for an essay. For example, how many words, what grade levels, the precise topic, etc. I looked on your website, but would still like more information.

Now for your book! America needs an alteration of attitude in the spirit of our youth. Your book plants a vision of a better America and ultimately world.

I would be interested in purchasing a class set… fact, I would purchase them for any family that will read it together and fill out a family worksheet prepared asking them to think about the book and the topics.

My teenage son was causing problems and being rebellious. He took my car and stayed out late against my permission. I grounded him for several weeks, and as a result, he would not be able to go to the high school prom. After reading the first 2 chapters of Left-Center-Right: What is BEST for America?, my son come to me and apologized for his poor behavior. He also requested that he would like to go to the school dance and that he would pay for the tickets and all the other expenses. Thank you for your foresight and inspiration! – Bank President
