These Are the Foods That Built America

Along with the rich history of the country, America is also known for its culinary tastes that lean towards freedom. Our nation had to fight the world to gain our independence. We wouldn’t be told how to live nor what to eat. Now we eat what we want and how much we want. In fact, Americans eat an average of 1,996 pounds of freedom-food each year.

Here are the top 5 foods that built America and can’t be replaced!

Deep Dish Pizza

A specialized pizza that was created in Chicago, is a widely popular food that, as the name describes, is a pizza prepared in a deep dish with high crust and extra everything in the middle. Sauce, cheese, meat, veggies, whatever you want; add it in!

The hamburger is an American classic. Drive-ins helped to popularized this food, and since its creation back in the early 1900s, it has evolved to include toppings of every type. Keep it simple with a slice of yellow American cheese and ketchup and mustard, or pile it high with crispy onions, barbecue sauce, bacon, freedom fries, and the list goes on!

Apple Pie

known as the national dessert of America, apple pie is simple and filling. Everyone makes it differently, and it can be served to anyone’s taste. Cold, hot, with whip cream or ice cream, how you serve it is up to you. Maybe it’s the understated simplicity that makes it a dessert food worth the calories.

Hot Dogs

Hot dog, Frank, weenie, banger, or whatever else you call it, this meat tube in a slice of bread is a traditional food at baseball games and at every Fourth of July. When you celebrate freedom and liberty, you damn well better have hot dogs on the grill. Feel free to top them with ketchup and mustard or add relish, diced onions, pickle, hot peppers, cheese, chili, or anything else. You will not be surprised to know that a person can eat more than 100 hot dogs in a year.

These delicious little creamy cookies were first sold in America in 1912, and have since been a continuing staple of the American diet. Every year, 7.5 billion Oreo cookies are consumed in America. The classic white milk cream between the chocolate wafer is a formula that has been repeated in ice cream, cakes, and pies.

From this list, one thing is clear. We love to start with a carbohydrate base, then pile on the meats, toppings, or succulent sweets. That’s freedom, baby. We make it how we want it, enjoy it when we want it, and never apologize. These are the foods that built America, and it is a signal to the world of how it should be done if you want to be the most powerful nation on the planet!

What Roles did Woman in Colonial America Play in Society?

If a time machine was made and women from the colonial times of America were brought to the times of today and were shown how the women are living, the results would be frankly very shocking.

The roles that women played in the colonial times of America were very different, right down to the smallest of living ways. The traditional and accepted roles of the women in society were celebrated and embraced. This differs to today where women hold similar roles to men while also making those role their own.

In colonial times, women of different ages had specific roles to play in the society, according to the various aspects of life. A girl was brought up in the house looking at her mother and learning to do the same work, find a man to marry, and to tend the house and various chores.

Looking after the house and maintaining chores was the priority of colonial women of America. Preparing meals, cleaning and taking care of the kids was supposed to be the prime focus of a mother in the house. Clothes were hand stitched and cooking utensils were hand made by the women.

Academic education was not viewed as important for women. Instead, women were taught skills of the home so they could raise the children and tend after her husband. Formal education was afforded by women of the upper class while middle and lower class women were kept at home.

Working Outside

Place for women in the colonial times was in the house. Any kind of work that needed done would have been done within the premises of the house. Washing clothes, making clothes, making meals, weaving baskets, making candles, looking after the domestic animals or gardening, taking care of children, and everything that didn’t involve going out and earning money was done by a woman.

A loyal and faithful wife of the colonial times was a woman who stayed behind at home looking after the house of her husband while he has gone out for work and doing all sorts of domestic chores. It was her sole responsibility to bring children into the world and nurture them.

Wealthy Women

The wealthy women of the colonial times had their lives a little easier than the rest of the lower class women. These women, although more privileged, were still expected to take on the role of traditional women with hep from hired workers or slaves when slavery was legal in the south.
Many women still continue to play what is sometimes thought of as a “traditional” role in the home where they raise the children and handle housework, this is not their only option today. Similarly, some men are replacing women in the home while the women go out and earn money. The roles for everyone have changed and are continuing to change, often for the better.

Essays about America to Learn More About the Country

To learn more about America, it’s always a good idea to read an essay about it. A well written and detailed essay can give you all the information that you need to know about any country. An essay about America can contain everything from history, to the politics, and the people of the country and how they live and what they do.

But to understand the key details and then put them in a way that is understandable for the reader and makes it easier for them to remember is a skill that a writer should have. Most writers, though good at writing for other niches, fail to comprise an essay about the country in an ideal way, which makes it harder for the reader to comprehend anything about America at all.

A good essay not only talks about the positives of a country but also sheds light on the negative aspects of the country as well. There has to be a suitable and harmonious balance of pros and cons about America in the essay.

Before starting your essay, make sure you know what direction you plan on taking it. There are a few genres to consider:

  • Non-fiction
  • Comedy
  • History
  • Current events
  • Personal reflection
  • Romance
  • Instructive
  • Biography

Also, don’t forget that an essay can also tell a story. When thinking about storytelling, remember that, as a general idea, there are seven plot types:

  • Overcoming the monster.
  • Rags to riches.
  • The quest.
  • Voyage and return.
  • Rebirth.
  • Comedy.
  • Tragedy.

A writer needs to put informative points in the essay on America, such as talk about the rich history of the country and the people who are part of it. They can talk about the freedom of the country and the journey that the country has taken. Hard work and endurance of the early Americans finally paid off when they were given independence in the year 1776 from British rule.

Next, they can talk about the political and economic strengths of the country, and what progress the country is making as compared to other countries in the world. America is the most financially stable and developed country in the world, which makes it one of the most powerful as well.

Moving on, mentioning some facts about the country that are lesser known can also add to the descriptive essence of the essay and inform the reader about many things that they did not know before. These facts don’t necessarily need to be good or bad, but they need to be true.

Not sure where to start? Here are a few of the best-known writers and essayists who have written about America.

  • James Baldwin
  • Scott Fitzgerald
  • Norman Mailer
  • Joan Didion
  • Ernest Hemingway
  • Robert Atwan
  • Stephen King
  • David Foster Wallace
  • John McPhee
  • Susan Sontag

Many American writers have written about America, but not all of them succeed in finding an audience. You are free to write as you wish. People may dismiss your essay or even claim you are unpatriotic. Thankfully, the freedom to write as we please (with only some exceptions, is one of this country’s advantages.

Along the way of writing your essay, you may also hopefully stumble across some interesting facts about America.

What is the Healthiest City in America?

America has a large number of people living in it. This means that the amount of food consumed by the population of America is remarkably large too. That doesn’t necessarily mean that what they consume is always healthy. Americans eat a lot of junk food, which is why you will find fast food chains on every corner with inexpensive, high-calorie offerings with extra cheese. From a consumer’s perspective, you could say they are up to no gouda (heh, cheese pun.) This is one of the many things that contribute to America’s rising obesity rates.

So does that mean that there are no healthy cities in America at all? Yes and no. Cities are population-dense with folks of many backgrounds, so no city is only comprised of healthy people. But some cities rank as being more healthy for meeting specific criteria like having good eating habits, access to healthcare, low pollution levels, and higher rates of physical activeness.

Here are the most healthy cities in America:

The city that can be called the healthiest city is Minneapolis. It has a famous farmer’s market with more than 200 street vendors.

Washington D.C.

Ranking as the second healthiest city is Washington D.C. It has the most significant number of bicyclers living in the city. Being the capitol of the country, it is also important for politicians and other people working in politics to stay fit.

San Francisco

You can easily follow an organic and healthy diet if you live in San Francisco. It also has a famous vegetarian restaurant, The Plant, which is the perfect place for vegans and vegetarians.

Home to beaches and parks, you can live a fit and healthy life in Seattle. Play sports at the beach or go for a jog in the park to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

The state offers a lot more than just glamour. It provides a lot of outdoor activities that can help you stay fit.

A city home to many fitness movements that were later adopted by other cities as well. Boston is the sixth healthiest city in America.

People looking for fun and outdoorsy activities will love Denver as it has a large number of areas suitable for hiking, trekking, rock climbing, mountain climbing, and running.

San Diego
