Top American Patriotic & Historical Movies
There are many opinions related to the Top 10 Historical & Patriotic Movies of All Time. Many TV shows, feature films, mini-series, movies and documentaries have been made about American history and American patriotism. Some are popular and yet historically inaccurate. Others are historically accurate, but unpopular.
My goal is to create a list of reasonably historically accurate movies with wide popularity and critical acclaim.
This Top 20 Patriotic & Historical Movies List was generated using IMDB.com and the following criteria:
1) Must be set in a specific historical time period.
2) History must be more than a backdrop. It must be an active participant.
3) The story or characters may be fictional, but the overall approach has educational value.
4) At least 10,000 user reviews were submitted to IMDB.com on behalf of the movie.
These Top 20 movies let you experience what life was like at that moment in time. If the movie was set during World War 2, you experience the gunfire and the conflicts between the Axis powers and the Allied powers. If it was set during the Vietnam War, you truly understand what it was like moving through the dense jungle. I have personally seen all but two of these movies.
The list includes 6 Best Actor / Best Actress Oscar winners, 10 Best Director Oscar winners, 9 Best Picture Oscar winners and a Best TV Mini-Series and Director Emmy.

America: a Patriotic Primer (Book) by Lynne Cheney, Robin Preiss-Glasser - Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers (2002): Patriotic Book for Children Review
America: a Patriotic Primer (Book) by Lynne Cheney, Robin Preiss-Glasser - Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers (2002)
Amazon.com Review:
Written by Lynne Cheney, author and wife of Vice President Richard Cheney, to honor this “beautiful land made more beautiful still by our commitment to freedom,” America: A Patriotic Primer is a proud celebration of the individuals, milestones, and principles of this nation. Each busy spread features elaborately decorated letters of the alphabet, with one or two kids draped over its bars and loops, along with the highlighted concept or person: “N is for Native Americans, who came here first,” “T is for Tolerance.” Surrounding every letter is a veritable circus of entertaining and useful related information, illustrated by Robin Preiss Glasser (Alexander, Who’s Not (Do You Hear Me? I Mean It!) Going to Move). “J is for Jefferson,” for example, is bordered with biographical details and quotations from Thomas Jefferson, while mini images depict the third president’s famous home (Monticello), some of his inventions, and a description of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom. This compelling picture book will work best as a supplement for children who are already immersed in basic American history at school. Teachers and parents will enjoy exploring with their kids every inch of the detailed, hand-drawn and illustrated U.S. map found in “U is for United States,” explaining and elaborating on the historical lessons as appropriate. Here Is What Are People Saying About the American Pride Series:
“We are so blessed to live in such a great country. May God richly bless and keep our service men and women safe. I have four brothers that served in the armed forces. One of them was in the Navy, one was in the Air Force and the other two served in the Army. My husband has two brothers that have served in the armed forces. One of them was in the Army and the other was in the Air Force. At the present time I have a grandson in the Navy. I have not seen him in his Navy uniform yet but you can bet when I do this will be one proud grandmother. I am so thankful for the time and sacrifice men and women have given for our freedom. May God continue to bless this great country and keep us free. I want to say thank you to each and every service man and woman in uniform. The men and women in the armed forces are the backbone of this country. Thank God for this great country. I am so proud of America.” - Lillian
“If we don’t appreciate what we have, we will lose it. America needs to realize that Freedom can be taken away and well as given. Thank you for this CD that reminds all of us that we should pay attention.” - Lindsey
“I am 25 years old. The problem I have noticed with the majority of my generation is it has become cool to be UnAmerican and UnPatriotic. You are made fun of, laughed at, teased, and thought of as “weird” if you like and support our country. Kids brought up now a day’s have no idea what it is like in other countries. They have no idea how restricted life is outside of our borders. Because of this, they cannot begin to comprehend the freedoms we are given. Freedoms we are just given, we don’t have to work for them, they are freely given to us on a daily basis because generations before us fought and died for them. Parents have become afraid to discipline their children. Our future generations are being brought up with no respect, no manners, and no knowledge of our country and its history. With the way things are going I see, in the not to distance future, generations that will once again be forced to fight and die for freedoms we once had because we did not properly educate and discipline our future generations in order to secure our future freedoms.” - Quinton

The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics & Video - The Cactus Cuties - The National Anthem of the USA
Texas Tech vs Texas Basketball Game - January 20, 2008
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Whitney Houston - National Anthem - Super Bowl 1991
America The Beautiful Lyrics & Video - Ray Charles Live - The McCallum Theater - 1991
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
God Bless America Lyrics & Video - Martina McBride Live
Tournament of Roses Parade Pasadena CA - January 1, 2002
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.
Coming To America Lyrics & Video - Neil Diamond
Jazz Singer (movie) - 1980
Far
We’ve been traveling far
Without a home
But not without a star
Free
Only want to be free
We huddle close
Hang on to a dream
On the boats and on the planes
They’re coming to America
Never looking back again
They’re coming to America
Home, don’t it seem so far away
Oh, we’re traveling light today
In the eye of the storm
In the eye of the storm
Home, to a new and a shiny place
Make our bed, and we’ll say our grace
Freedom’s light burning warm
Freedom’s light burning warm
Everywhere around the world
They’re coming to America
Every time that flag’s unfurled
They’re coming to America
Got a dream to take them there
They’re coming to America
Got a dream they’ve come to share
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
They’re coming to America
Today, today, today, today, today
My country ’tis of thee (Today)
Sweet land of liberty (today)
Of thee I sing (today)
Of thee I sing (today)
(today) (today) (today)
Alternative The Battle Hymn of the Republic Video
The Battle Hymn of the Republic Lyrics & Video
Mine eyes have seen the glory
Of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage
Where the grapes of wrath are stor’d;
He hath loos’d the fateful lightning
Of His terrible swift sword:
His truth is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watchfires
Of a hundred circling camps,
They have builded Him an altar
In the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence
By the dim and flaring lamps:
His truth is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies
Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom
That transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy
Let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
God Bless the USA Lyrics & Video - Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone
I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start a new one
with just my children and my wife,
I’d thank my lucky stars
to be living here today,
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can’t take that away.
And I’m proud to be an American
where at least I know I’m free,
And I won’t forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota
to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston
and New York to L.A.,
well There’s pride in every American heart
and it’s time we stand and say:
that I’m proud to be an American
where at least I know I’m free,
And I won’t forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
And I’m proud to be an American
where at least I know I’m free,
And I won’t forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
